TRANSIT FACES 37% FUNDING CUTS
The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and the IM4Transit Campaign urge transit supporters to take action by September 20.
Congress has proposed to cut more than one-third of federal funding across the board for public transit and surface transportation programs. If these cuts are implemented, transit riders can expect service delays, fare increases and over-crowding. The proposed cuts to funding will increase unemployment and leave many Americans stranded without access to their jobs and basic services such as grocery stores, doctors and faith services.
Here's how you can help:
- Please click the above TAKE ACTION NOW link and tell your elected representatives how you feel about the importance of public transportation.
- Urge your friends, families, and co-workers to visit the www.IM4Transit.org web site and click "Join" to express their support of public transportation
- Attend one of several pro-transit events around the state. There are rallies in Lakeland, Pinellas County, and other Florida Cities. Check out the APTA Don't X Out Transit page as more events will be listed soon.
GOING FORWARD
The business community strongly supports public transportation in Florida. Several business sponsors, including Tectrans are stepping up to sponsor IM4Transit which means more buzz, prizes, and promotions.
The Ambassador Program is renewed. We challenge individuals and businesses to enroll associates, family and friends in IM4Transit. Whoever recruits the most enrollees between today and Dec. 31 earns an iPad2. We will also be making an announcement about new monthly drawings.
Please forward this email to your employees, friends, riders, and associates. What Congress decides on transit in the next few months will affect public transportation in Florida for decades to come. If you do one good thing today as a citizen, click here and make your voice be heard. Let's not be silent.
Sincerely,
The Florida Public Transportation Association
