Breaking News

Public Thanks to  Congressman Diaz-Balart who, at FPTA request, has agreed to co-sponsor the Transit Assistance Act which, if passed,  will help Florida's transit agencies to better serve our riders.

Tell Us Your 4Transit Story

Why are you 4Transit? Do you like saving thousands of dollars by taking transit? Does it make you feel patriotic to ride because you know that riding helps make America energy independence? Do you feel good about reducing your carbon footprint and going green with transit or do you simply hate wasting your time in traffic congestion and prefer to work on your laptop, text friends, or read during your commute? We want to hear from you. Either post something on our FACEBOOK page or email Denis@IM4Transit.org

Why is Business 4Transit?

 Raphael

Raphael Clemente of the West Palm Beach DDA supports transit because it's good for business.  "Transit allows greater development opportunities by decreasing the need for expensive parking infrastructure. The cost of building parking is tremendous - approximately $15,000 per vehicle space. Add to that the lost revenue of not being able to use property for something more productive than parking".

Making a Difference

The transit community can breathe a momentary sigh of relief. All summer, we have been warning about proposed 37% cuts to public and surface transportation and have asked the IM4Transit Community to contact their elected officials. Thanks in part to the efforts of transit supporters like you, APTA, Transportation 4 America, and campaigns like IM4Transit, it looks like the 37% cuts are off the table and Congress is actively looking for ways to maintain transit, road, bridge, and other transportation funding. Here is a link to FPTA's congratulatroy response to Rep. Mica.

But we are not out of the woods yet and I urge your continued active membership in IM4Transit. The Board of the Florida Public Transportation Association is committed to continuing our public awareness IM4Transit campaign through 2012. Business leaders have stepped up their support of IM4Transit which enables us to continue with the Ambassador Program and various fun promotions involving iPads, etc..

My year as Chair of the Board of the FPTA is nearing an end and one of the highlights of my tenure was the launch of the IM4Transit Campaign. I want to thank each and every one of you for your continuing support of public transportation in Florida.

LAKELAND RALLY im4tRANSIT

On September 20, rallies were held around the Unites States for the purpose of urging Congress not to make 37% cuts to transportation. Winter Haven Area Transit and Ride Citrus (pictured above) both held rallies where riders were invited to join the IM4Transit Campaign. Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority created a media day on board its fleet that created positive print and television coverage for transit.

Earn a HOT $1000

We really appreciate our business sponsors like Tectrans who make these contests and promotions possible. Look for a special announcement on October 20 on the IM4Transit web site regarding the launch of a new contest. Put your thinking caps on, the rules will be simple, whoever posts the IM4Transit video on YouTube that goes the most viral, as measured by the most views by June 30, 2012, will win our best prize yet. The video must have the term "IM4Transit" in its title, be judged pro-transit, be in good taste, and the creator must submit the link to the IM4Transit Campaign.
